Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Oblong small quarto. Measuring 9" x 6½". Burgundy cloth over stiff paper boards. Contains 24 sepia-toned gelatin silver photographs measuring 5" x 6½", with captions. Worn edges, a tear on the front board, and tiny chips. A photo album of commercial photographs by French photographer, J. Patras following French and Algerian troops during World War I. Each photo is stamped on the verso with the studio information and handwritten caption with a typed caption detailing the scene on the front. The first image shows Patras "in front of his dug out at Craonne Aug. 1917." Following this the images show the troops in trenches, posed near crumbling ruins, and at makeshift churches and restaurants. One photo shows a man having a dental procedure in a trench, another is captioned "French and boche [German] corpses brought back from lines in a small car to be buried;" another shows a Senegalese soldier being administered first aid on a stretcher in a trench. One of the photos show the crumbling ruins of the city of Craonne with the captions, "nothing left in this famous city after the grand attacks of April June 1917." An interesting collection of World War I photography.
