Hardcover. Zustand: Good. Centenary Edition . A perfectly serviceable reference copy of the so-called Centenary Edition, edited by the subject's/author's brother, Dr. James Paton and then revised by A.K. Langridge; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy. Orange cloth over boards, black lettering and illustration to front cover, lettering to spine. Bumping to spine head and foot. Slight forward cock to spine. Fine black-and-white photograph of Paton at frontis, complete with maps. Publication date unstated, but Preface by A.K. Langridge is dated 1923. He mentions the Centenary of the Good Reverend's birth in May of 1924 and that the missionary's sons are remaining in the Pacific, still associated with the New Hebrides Mission in Melanesia. His Wikipedia entry notes that "John Gibson Paton (24 May 1824 ? 28 January 1907), born in Scotland, was a Protestant missionary to the New Hebrides Islands of the South Pacific. He brought to the natives of the New Hebrides education and Christianity. He developed small industries for them, such as hat making. He advocated strongly against a form of slavery, which was called "Blackbirding", that involved kidnapping the natives and forcing them to work in New Zealand and elsewhere."Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
