"Conductor Generalis" is a Latin phrase meaning "a general guide." The first by Parker was published in 1764. His 1788 edition, the fourth, is significant because it was the first published after the ratification of the Constitution and "adapted to these United States." This 1788 edition, the fourth, is significant because it was the first published after the ratification of the Constitution and "adapted to these United States." Our copy was owned by a Pennsylvanian attorney and justice of the peace, William Betz [1812-1860], "a magistrate of decided ability" (Montgomery).
