A very desirable publication published to mark the opening of the 8th "underground line," from the centre of Paris to Port de Picpus & Charenton, with which one could also reach the 1931 Expo Coloniale Internationale. Background information on the history of the Paris Metro, illustrated with fine photographs of the work in progress, stations, coaches, etc. A stunning piece of bookmaking, from the binding to the elaborate colour charts and illustrations. Rare, especially with the fragile binding in such fine condition. Not listed on OCLC.

Rechts unten signiert: R. Liebknecht. - Sauber und sehr gut erhalten. Robert Liebknecht (1903 Berlin - 1994 Paris). Sohn von Karl Liebknecht. 1933 Emigration… nach Paris. Das zurückgelassene Werk wurde später bei Bombenangriffen zerstört. 1936 gemeinsam mit Max Ernst, Otto Freundlich und Paul Westheim Mitbegründer des Kollektivs deutscher Künstler in Paris, aus dem 1938 der Freie Künstlerbund hervorging. Nach der deutschen Ausbürgerung 1937 und einer Internierung in Les Milles flüchtete er mit Frau und Tochter 1943 in die Schweiz. 1946 Rückkehr nach Frankreich und Arbeit in einem Heim für jüdische Waisen in Moissac. 1947 Umzug nach Paris. Sein Grab befindet sich auf dem Zentralfriedhof Friedrichsfelde in Berlin (sog. Sozialistenfriedhof).
