16 pages, with woodblock vignette at titlepage and small initial headpiece. - Ca. mid-20th-century blue-brown-gold marbled stiff cardboard binding; small-Folio.(ca. 26 x 20 cm). *** ANONYMOUSLY PUBLISHED RARE ORIGINAL TREATISE ON THE LAST MONTHS OF TUBECULOSIS IN THE LIFE OF THE DESIGNED SUCCESSOR OF LOUIS XV who yet died before his father. He never wore the crown but he was the father of three kings of France: Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X. When in spring 1765 the Court went to Compiègne to assist in the annual military maneuvers he caught a cold during one of the warrior-exercises after he joined the Council without changing his wet clothes and was never completely cured. After returning to Versailles in September his cough grew stronger and he consulted medicians but died of tuberculosis at the age of 36 on December 20th the same year. According to the prince's last wishes, his remains were buried in the cathedral of Sens, while his heart was taken to Saint-Denis. - Slight trace of former folding and minimal foxing in the wide margin; A VERY GOOD COPY, well preserved by the later cardboard binding.

Oldr mit goldgeprägtem schmalen Einbandrücken, umlaufendem roten Farbschnitt und marmorierten Vorsatzpapieren, 8° ( 16,5 x 10 cm ). Der Einband ist berieben, etwas fleckig, Ecken und Kanten sind bestoßen, der schmale Einbandrücken ist angeplatzt und beschädigt, die Bindung ist gelockert. Innen ist das Papier leicht gebräunt, wenige Seiten gering fleckig, letzte Seiten etwas stärker fleckig, möglicherweise durch einen Wasserschaden. Thirty-six works by Cooke are listed between 1790 and 1843. The present item, along with its companion piece 'Carte de la basse Egypte: dressée d'après les observations astronomiques de C. Nouet, et les reconnaissances des ingénieurs et officiers employés à l'Armée d'Orient', appeared in 'Planches du Voyage dans la Basse et la haute Egypte, par Vivant Denon', published in Paris by P. Didot in 1802. Both have the engraved signature 'John Cooke, sc, 50 Howland St.' The dimensions of the map are approximately 31.5 x 23.5 cm. The surrounding margins have been closely trimmed, leaving a little space at the foot with the caption 'PLAN DU KAIRE ET DES ENVIRONS', and at bottom right 'John Cooke, sc. 50 Howland St'. Somewhat worn and discoloured, with worn central vertical crease. A fine example of the cartographer's art, with plan at top right of the 'CHATEAU DU KAIRE', with numbered key from A to T; and key to 'GHIZE', from A to H, at bottom right.

Die Darstellung zeigt Marie-Jean Hérault de Séchelles (1759 - 1794) und Pierre Victurnien Vergniaud (1753 - 1793).] Das großformatige Blatt an beiden oberen Ecken sowie am unteren rechten Eck mit Quetschfalten und hinterlegten Randläsuren und kleineren Fehlstellen. Am unteren rechten Rand mit 5cm langen hinterlegten kaum augenfälligem Einriss, am oberen Rand mit drei kleinen hinterlegten Einrissen. Das seltene Blatt in einem insgesamt sammelwürdigen Zustand.
