First edition thus. Wrappers with, by our count, 88 unnumbered plates showing sights of Rome and vicinity. Small oblong format. This collection seems to have been made up and sold in a variety of compositions. Captions in this copy in Italian only. The present copy is in illustrated wrappers without a title page, the cover serving as the title. Other copies have, e.g., only 30 plates (Getty), 102 plates (Clark Institute), and Italian and French captions. Front wrapper browned and stained, spine heavily chipped, but binding firm. At the beginning the plates have a large stain in the lower right corner not affecting the image, then there is a clean section with occasional light staining or foxing, then again some plates with a larger but fainter corner stain that touches the image, this stain then receding and dying out toward the end. Heavy cotton paper for prints throughout. Could presumably be washed to remove the stains. Rarely seen in original wrappers as here.…

Les exemplaires repérés dans plusieurs bibliothèques, notamment celle du Québec, ne contiennent que 60 planches, mais on sait qu'un recueil de planches de Parboni est paru plus tardivement en 1830 contenant des planches de 1824, avec 100 figures, un autre avec 50 planches en 1834 ; notre exemplaire pourrait avoir été truffé des planches de ces éditions. The engravings bear different signatures: Parboni, Franzetti, Olivieri, or bear none at all, and sometimes the dates 1824, 1827 and 1829. Printed on strong laid paper. Copies found in several libraries, notably that of Quebec, contain only 60 plates, but it is known that a collection of Parboni plates was published later in 1830 containing plates from 1824, with 100 figures, another with 50 plates in 1834; our copy could have been grangerized with plates from these editions.
