Para ello se aborda una revisión taxonómica y bibliográfica en profundidad de cada una de ellas, que se concreta en la elaboración de una introducción general a cada familia, en la que se sintetizan los aspectos más relevantes de su taxonomía, anatomía y sistemática, así como en la construcción de claves para la identificación tanto de géneros como de especies. Para cada una de las 111 especies incluidas en la presente obra, se ofrece al lector una detallada descripción en la que se aportan aquellos aspectos morfológicos más relevantes, acompañada de la correspondiente iconografía en la que se resaltan sus principales características anatómicas, así como finalmente una síntesis del conocimiento actual sobre su biología y distribución geográfica. El presente volumen incluye un estudio detallado de tres familias de poliquetos de modo de vida tubícola y hábitos suspensívoros, incluidas en el Orden Sabellida: Fabriciidae Rioja, 1923, Sabellidae Latreille, 1825 y Serpulidae Rafinesque, 1815. Para ello, se aborda una revisión bibliográfica de cada una, que se concreta en la presentación de una Introducción general a cada familia, en la que se sintetizan los aspectos más relevantes de su taxonomía, anatomía y sistemática, así como la elaboración de claves para la identificación tanto de géneros como de especies. Para cada una de las 122 especies incluidas en la presente obra, se incluye una detallada descripción morfológica acompañada de iconografía, así como una síntesis del conocimiento actual sobre su biología y distribución geográfica. The working area was focused on Bransfield Strait and Livingston and Deception Islands. This campaign was followed by three more in the years 1995, 2003 and 2006; the two last ones in the far-off and lonely Bellingshausen Sea. The text is accompanied by many surprising photographies illustrating both the spectacular Antarctic landscapes and the diverse fauna inhabiting sea bed. It is completed with the documentary Antártida: La vida en el límite (Antarctica: Life at the limit), awarded in different science and nature documentary competitions. It shows the development of Bentart campaigns in the Austral Ocean. "Knowing our planet is essential to preserve it. Exploring the remaining virgin places is one of the greatest challenges for humankind. Antarctica is the last one, the most inhospitable and dangerous place to be discovered". These words are the beginning for the documentary by José A. Moya titled, like the book, Antártida: La vida en el límite (Antarctica: Life at the limit), which sums up perfectly the intention of Ana Ramos when she started the Bentart campaigns: the story and main results are shown in this work.
