Il primo volume è preceduto da una "Notizia intorno alla vita e agli scritti di Lazzaro Papi" di A.Mazzarosa. Il Papi (Pontito di Pescia, 1763 - 1834) fu medico nelle Indie Orientali fino al 1802, poi Bibliotecario di Elisa Bonaparte a Lucca, quindi tenente colonnello delle truppe lucchesi. Tracce d'uso esterne, peraltro internamente ben conservato. Per entrambe le opere si tratta della rara tiratura in carta grande. Opera con una vicenda editoriale assai complessa. La prima parte in effetti è apparsa cinque anni dopo la seconda per un editore differente, nonostante le promesse che l'editore Giusti non cessava a stampare sul retro della brossura dei volumi stampati dalla sua tipografia. Le tipologie editoriale sono però le stesse e le brossure uguali, ciò a dimostrazione che il cambio d'editore deve avere motivazioni politiche e di censura storica. …
