Corporal / 1st Lieutenant Charles Morfoot; Illustrated by A substantial Civil War letter with interesting and quite vivid content written by Charles Morfoot, 101st Ohio Infantry Volunteers, on June 26, 1864 at Altoona Pass, Georgia to his wife Elizabeth back home in Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio. It's orange envelope has a pink 3 cent stamp with the bust of George Washignton and is postmarked "Nashville, July 7, 1864". Morfoot had been a bricklayer and enlisted in August, 1862. He saw action at Perryville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Jonesboro, Franklin and Nashville (see Dyer, p. 1541). The letter is written on ledger paper that is approximately 5 x 3" and was stitched together at the corner. It is in legible pencil, and is 6 leaves, or 12 pages. ~Some highlights include: "We are on the front line and on the skirmish line it has been more civil last night than usual there was not much shooting all night, we have to keep lo in our ditches.
