Plantation forestry is an age old practice as people use to plant trees on their farm lands and near their houses. There were tree festivals like Shalbhangika Vanmahotsava in Gupta period. However the expanse of these plantations were less. With the advent of industrialization expanding population base and degradation of forest there is an urgent need to establish large scale plantations which on one hand fulfill the need of industries fuel fodder and timber requirement of people and on the other provide economic and environmental safety. In India generally degraded lands are spared for forest related activities. These degraded lands suffers from different problems like less soil depth grazing pressure poor nutrient may be saline alkaline inaccessibility undulating rocky so on. Establishing trees on these lands is a challenging task and requires skill and planning. In light of failure of many plantation programs in past it is imperative that the manpower is trained for plantation programs to achieve good results in field. This prompted the authors to bring out this manuscript which can help as a guide to foresters researchers and students. The book would be of interest to those who are concerned with land use in forest and soil conservation agriculture and forest colleges and universities. There are total eight chapters chapter first introduces plantation forestry as a science and spells the need and origin of large scale plantation. Second and third chapters are devoted to equipments and techniques used in plantation forestry. Rest of the chapters deals with management planning impact energy relation of plantation and protection of plantation forestry. 100 pp.

Hardbound. Zustand: As New. New. Contents Preface. 1. Introduction. 2. Nursery establishment. 3. Field plantation. 4. Management of forest. 5. Measuring forest. Literature cited. Glossary of technical terms. Conversion table. Logarithms. Antilogarithms. The manuscript has been divided into five chapters for the sake of convenience. Chapter 1 introduces the need of forest enterprise and way outs to tackle the problems. Chapter 2 covers different aspects of nursery right from selecting of site for nursery to study of germination parameters conditioning of seedling and management of fertilizers application and insect pest and diseases. Third chapter is devoted for raising and managing of plants. This includes matching site and species lay out soil working and finally after care of the plantation. Once the plant gets established the diversity of both plants and insect increases. Knowing the status of regeneration of principal species and other species is also important. Hence regeneration survey and vegetational survey have been covered in chapter 4. Quality of wood is of prime importance which is obtained by thinning the crops. Thus method of thinning and cost involved in raising forest crops have also been covered in this chapter. Insect pest and diseases are part and parcel of forest. Control measures of these has also been suggested in chapter four. The Sale and purchase of forest resource particularly wood cannot be thought of without measuring the amount of wood stored in forest area. Per cent profit and loss depends upon the accuracy of measurement. Hence chapter 5 is exclusively devoted for measuring diamention age and volume of forest by means of different methods. 192 pp.

Zustand: Hervorragend. Zustand: Hervorragend | Seiten: 468 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | This edited book covers all aspects of forest deforestation and degradation in detail and their link to land degradation. Poor natural resource management is often a contributory factor in the depletion of resources particularly like degradation of land which hinders the goals to achieve land degradation neutrality (LDN). Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 15.3 states: ¿By 2030, combat desertification, restore degraded land and soil, including land affected by desertification, drought, and floods, and strive to achieve a land degradation-neutral world.¿ To achieve the set goals a comprehensive multidirectional approach is required involving policymakers, field functionaries, researchers, and above all educators. The book compiles the field experiences and wisdom of some of the best researchers and authors working in the field of land degradations for quite a long time. The objective of the book is to disseminate the status of land degradation, the importance of achieving land degradation and share success stories of reclaiming Land degradation, and suggests means and ways of achieving land degradation neutrality. This book act as a repository of knowledge on Land degradation neutrality for students, researchers and practitioners, and policy planners.
