Hardcover. Zustand: Good+. 16mo 6" - 7" tall; Notable for the presence of a clean, only slightly trimmed example of the etching of Voltaire from Thomas Orde's drawing made at Ferney in 1772. It is included as a folding plate in the 2nd volume of "Observations in a Journey to Paris" by William Jones. This 2nd volume of two is bound here together with the 1st volume of [Palmer's] "Four Months Tour through France". Together , a sort of bastard noble volume; both works are alike very uncommon in the marketplace. Palmer's "Four Months" is lacking a single leaf [B2] pages 1 & 2. The whole is essentially disbound with text block loose from boards and a number of pages loose from the binding. Some signatures sprung. First several leaves worn, furred and frayed at front edge. Some pencil annotation in margins of "Observations in a Journey to Paris". The etching is in clean and bright condition with plate marks visible and light only wear along the fold lines. The etching TO ft 1772 is subscribed Le heros de Ferney au theatre de Chatelaine. Underneath are printed the lines "Ne pretens pas a trop tu ne scaurais qu'ecrire // Tes vers forcent mes pleurs, mais tes gestes me font rire. Anon " The etching is in VG condition, while the mismatched volumes of the 1776 and 1777 travel narratives are in fair only confition, lacking their respective 2nd volumes, one page lacking and generally requiring restoration and rebinding or to be paired with their respective volumes.
