Top of spine split, crns bit rubbed, small fore- edge stain to 2 leaves of prelims, occasional marg pencil underlinings . Inscription fly leaf, first map slty torn at fold.Extreme head of spine rubbed. Outer joints have a 3cm split at head. Tail of rear spine joint has a 5 cm crack. The inner hinges of the book are sound throughout. Further notes :- Vol 1, 1865 First ed. Vol.2, third edition, 1866.There are no half titles or rear ads. in this copy, though the pagination does not call for one in Vol.1. Collates thus - Vol 1. Contemporary memorial insc on fly leaf.Frontis and title page a bit foxed at margins with 2 very minor ink marks to the extreme fore edge of the title and ded.leaves, measuring I cm high and 0.25 cm wide.The folding, coloured map of Arabia has a 9cm tear to the lower outer fold , a 2cm tear and a 1cm tear at the lower gutter margin of the map. The light, occasional marginal pencil marks,some times with adjacent text underlinings,are easily erased. A clean and sound copy overall. . . …
