First edition, folio (540 x 380 mm), 71 full-page lithographic plates (it appears plate 13 has been removed), black calf-backed boards, red morocco spine lettering piece, a very good copy. This rare architectural work is attributed to Edward Graham Paley and Hubert James Austin, partners in the prominent Lancaster architectural firm Paley & Austin. The title references John of Gaunt, Duke of Lancaster, reflecting the regional focus of their architectural practice. The volumes contain lithographic plates depicting churches, historic buildings, and architectural detailstypical of the firm's Gothic Revival interests. Two further volumes were published in 1879 and 1885, but are not present here.…
