Books's author Leons Paegle (1890-1926) was Latvian writer, member of the Communist Party of Latvia. His collections of poems served the cause of the struggle for liberation waged by the Latvian working class; prose works depicted the life of the Latvian village; his dramas attacked bourgeois life. Paegle's works are intense and dramatic, expressionist, with clear composition, steeped in energy of class struggle and communist enthusiasm. Book cover is decorated by great original modernist lithograph, the work of Niklavs Strunke (1894 1966) - painter, graphic artist, book illustrator, stage decorator, one of the most outstanding representatives of the 20th century Latvian avant-garde.
