Leitch was a watercolorist and illustrator whose father, William Leighton Leitch, served Queen Victoria and her daughters as drawing-master for almost twenty years. This popular manual went through nine editions and was aimed at amateurs, its progressive approach likely influenced by the senior Leitch's extensive teaching experience. (Metropolitan Museum of Art). A manual aimed at teaching water-colour painting technique, with instructive text on the page facing each colour plate.

An instructional guide to painting with both watercolor and sepia, discussing the various tints and their use, as well as using the example plates to demonstrate technique. GOOD condition. Uneven fading and scuffing to the covers, with minor soiling. Some spotting and discoloration to the rear cover. Gift bookplate on the interior indicates this was a gift to a library, but there are no library treatments so it may have never been added to the collection.
