Die Avifauna der Gesellschaft für Naturschutz und Ornithologie Rheinland-Pfalz (GNOR) bietet erstmals eine umfassende Darstellung der Vogelwelt des Landes Rheinland-Pfalz. Bis 2012 wurden 375 wildlebende Vogelarten als Brutvögel, Durchzügler, Gastvögel, seltene Ausnahmeerscheinungen und Gefangenschaftsflüchlinge nachgewiesen. Zahlreiche Grafiken, Karten und brillante Fotos helfen, verschiedene Aspekte anschaulich zu erläutern. Der 1. Band des vierbändigen Grundlagenwerks beschreibt nach kurzen Ausführungen zur Entstehung des Werkes zunächst die Entwicklung der avifaunistischen Forschung in Rheinland-Pfalz.
