Volume I (originally published by Julius Springer, Berlin, 1934) includes Hilbert's introduction, in which he directly addresses Gödel's incompleteness results, contending that they do not refute his program but rather require a sharper exploitation of the finite standpoint. The volume develops formal axiomatics, the decision problem, propositional and predicate calculus, and number theory including recursive functions.
