Oxford, Clarendon, 1914. LXVI,298 pp. Hardcover. - Spine sl. discoloured.* Ex-libris of H.M.R. Leopold on first free endpaper.
London, The Linnean Society, 1879. 4to (30.3 x 24.0 cm). 36 pp.; two lithographed plates (one very nicely hand-coloured), table; [AND] ten pp.; two plates, including one hand-coloured, by Joseph Wolf. Original printed wrappers. Two beautifully illustrated papers. The first based on the butterfly collection of the botanist, gardener and zoologist Captain William Stackhouse Church Pinwill (1835-1920). Several spectacular new species are described and illustrated. The table shows the broader distribution of the Malaccan Macrolepidoptera. The second paper written by Richard Owen, dealing with an enigmatic Australian mammal. "The musky rat-kangaroo (Hypsiprymnodon moschatus) is a small marsupial found only in the rainforests of northeast Australia. First described in the later nineteenth century, the only other species are known from fossil specimens". (Wikipedia)". Both published in the first volume of the Society's Transactions, second Zoology series, together with a smaller paper on echinoids, and an index. Wrappers a bit soiled, last few (index) leaves creased. Otherwise a very good, clean and unmarked copy. Horn-Schenkling II(1), p. 407 [Butler]. Neither work in Nissen.
