Illustrated with numerous in-text sketches and one hundred plates of picturesque old buildings to the rear of the volume. Collated complete. An errata slip is bound in, stating that plate 40 was selected as the frontispiece. A charming and informative work on the old cottages, farmhouses and half-timbered buildings of the English counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire, and Cheshire. With introductory and descriptive notes, and numerous sketches, by Edward Augustus Lyle Ould, an English architect and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. The one hundred plates reproduced in collotype are from a special series of photographs taken by James Parkinson, a British architectural woodworker. Previously held in the library of Marshall Arnott Sisson, a British architect whose earliest buildings were considered modernist, though after 1935 he used only traditional styles and became known for his restoration work. He served as the Royal Academy's surveyor and treasurer. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spine.
