His interest in the treatment of patients with poliomyelitis is evident in…his publications. The technique for attaching the end of the tendon to be transfered was important. Vulpius advocated fastening it to the tendon of the paralyzed muscle close to its insertion, as had been done by Nicoladoni" (Peltier, Orthopedics. Oskar Vulpius war als Assistent Vinzenz von Czernys an der Chirurgischen Kl…inik in Heidelberg tätig und habilitierte sich hier 1894 für orthopädische Chirurgie. 1896 wurde er Direktor der Orthopädischen Universitäts-Poliklinik in Heideberg, leitete bis 1918 die von ihm 1910 gegründete Badische Krüppel-, Heil- und Erziehungsanstalt und errichtete 1912 ein Sonnen- und Solbade-Sanatorium in Rappenau. Er veröffentlichte u. a. eine Orthopädische Operationslehre" (1913, zusammen mit Adolf Stoffel).
