The Reit-Sport-Club Karlsruhe was a civilian equestrian sports association founded in 1924, during the consolidating years of the Weimar Republic. The surviving logbook (Protokollbuch) records the period between 1934 and 1942, which coincides with the establishment of the National Socialist dictatorship and the escalation of the Second World War. The club served as the social base for the local elite - civil servants, military officers, and affluent citizens. Its leaders (Fritz Kull, Heger) and officials (J. Dörflinger, Oskar Schlipf), alongside cultivating classical equestrian traditions, were increasingly forced to adapt to the expectations of the Nazi state apparatus, until the war machine eventually completely dismantled the club's original mode of operation. Even an early entry from May 1934 records that the club members present were, without exception, members of the Nazi storm detachment, the S.A. (Sturmabteilung). By this time, sports associations had lost their autonomy, and the maintenance of physical fitness openly served military and party objectives (such as the planned establishment of a Bürgerwehr or militia). The entries from 1942 show the first signs of the home front's collapse. The horses kept for sporting purposes were requisitioned by the equestrian units of the SS (SS Reitersturm), fodder shortages paralyzed show jumping competitions, and women's riding was banned. Club activities were forced off the tracks and restricted to the tables of local pubs (Tenorsaal, Löwenbräukeller). The change in language use is a historical imprint in itself. While in the 1930s members closed their meetings with the traditional exclamation "Reit-Heil!" (Equestrian Salute!), by 1942 this was replaced by the mandatory, threefold "Sieg Heil".
