Cover has some stains and wear in delicate areas, and a large ink stain on the back. The book also has a few brown spots. With a handwritten dedication by both authors: 'Voor Chrisje/ van/ Alice en Oscar/ New…York 11 April/ 1947.' An autobiographical children's book full of homesickness by Alice (actually Alida) Fabrès-Overduin (1889-1972), who fled to America with her husband, the artist Oscar Fabrès, in 1940. She grew up with her sister Anna (1887-1937) in the North Holland village of Wieringerwaard, where her father was the village doctor. Included is a carbon copy of a typed letter from the painter Langston Moffett, who is full of praise for the book. The stain on the back indicates an instance of an overturned inkwell, the resulting stain altered into a face has been made in silhouette. Fabrès, unter dem Titel "Quartier Réservé. Quinze Dessins", Paris, Au Divan, 1926, in 100 num. Exemplaren. Die Motive der Originalzeichnungen sind weitgehend identisch mit denen der Lithografien, unterscheiden sich allerdings in zahlreichen Details und auch in der Kolorierung. Oscar Fabrès (1894 - 1960) war ein chilenischer Künstler und Karikaturist, der zuerst in Paris studierte und arbeitete, zu der Zeit auch ein enger Freund Foujitas war, den er mehrmals porträtierte. 1940 übersiedelte er dann nach New York. Das Mappenwerk "Quartier Réservé" stammt aus der frühen Pariser Zeit des Künstlers, den wilden 20er Jahren; es zeigt Szenen aus dem Bordell-Leben, Nutten mit ihren Freiern, aber auch ausdrucksstarke Portraits von Prostituierten und Puffmüttern. Mappe etwas berieben, innen etwas braunfleckig, mit Sammler-Stempel am Innendeckel (F. Fasting, Rio de Janeiro). Oscar Fabrès (1894 - 1960) was a Chilean artist and caricaturist who first studied and worked in Paris and was also a close friend of Foujita at the time, whom he portrayed several times. He then moved to New York in 1940. The portfolio 'Quartier Réservé' dates from the artist's early Parisian period, the wild 1920s; it shows scenes from brothel life, hookers with their johns, but also expressive portraits of prostitutes and madams. Oscar Fabrès (1894 - 1960) was a Chilean illustrator of children's books and a commercial artist. He studied art in Paris and settled in New York in 1940. In den Warenkorb12 wine labels in color pasted on five sheets (about 31 x 23 cm) of drawing paper, and two black and white advertisement pages with illustrated advertisements. The latter are somewhat puckered and spotted. With a large, yellow-brown envelope (25 x 33 cm), addressed in pen by Fabrès to his wife and mother-in-law in Laren, North H…olland. With handwritten sender's address and two American postage stamps (3 and 15 cents), and matching cancels (dated July 27, 1949). The twelve wine labels all refer to Frank Schoonmaker (1905-1976), a wine and travel writer who did much to market American wine. The two advertisements refer to 'American Champagne' of Almadén and Korbel. The Fabrès labels were still used in the 1970s, more than ten years after his death. But these are very early examples, sent to Grandma (his mother's wife) and perhaps intended for a scrapbook.

Aandoenlijk zelfportret: Fabrès staat op een wolkenkrabber in het panorama van New York en laat een duif los met een brief, waarop staat 'To Oma from Alice and Oscar' in de richting van een molen aan de andere kant van de oceaan. Ondera…an staat 'New York/ 30 May/ 1946'. Gekleurd in grijs, blauw, groen, geel en rood. 'Oma', Christina Overduin-Kaan (1862-1950), de moeder van Oscars echtgenote Alice Overduin, vierde die dag haar 84e verjaardag.
