Part 1 of this report describes a series of experiments in which partial-body exposure to doses of X rays from 200 to 500 r was used to study the previously reported X irradiation. In the study summarized in Part 2 of this report, post-irradiation administration of homologous bone marrow suspension was employed to test the hypothesis that the decrease in volitional activity performed during the 2nd and 3rd weeks related to a hematopoietic deficiency. It appears that hematopoietic injury is the mediating process involved in this performance decrement.
