Collated, complete.A collection of four popular works by the English essayist Francis Osborne. He is best known for 'Advice to a Son', included in this work, which became very popular after the English Restoration. Each part has a separate title page.'Advice to a Son' narrates a man's thoughts of advice he wishes to give to his young son, divided into five sections, studies, love and marriage, travel, government, and religion. Though incredibly popular 'Advice to a Son' did receive some backlash when it was published due to its misogynist warnings against women.Also included is 'Memories on Queen Elizabeth and King James', a gossipy work focusing the courts of both monarchs.Contemporary ink inscriptions to the recto of the front endpaper, recto of the front free endpaper, and to the title page, dated 1683 and 1686. In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed. Minor bumping to the extremities and to the tail of the spine. A small amount of loss to the head of the spine.
