['Eight' Boat Construction] AUTOGRAPH THESIS. Quarto (29 x 22cm), pp.[10] 44 [7]. With one page number per leaf, and 15 photographs of the construction process pasted to bank sides facing text. A frontispiece illustration has been cut out of a magazine and pasted in. Written in a neat legible hand with blue ink. Several loose illustrations and article to rear. In contemporary green quarter cloth with blue cloth over boards. Marbled endpapers. Some adhesive burn to hinge at title page; frontispiece illustration coming away. Light external wear and some sunning to the rear board. Very good. Having discovered at the time of writing that there was almost nothing published on the construction of 'eight' boats, Orchard compiled this thesis on the subject, relying almost entirely on information gained on visits to George Simms and Sons of Putney, Boatbuilders, and on personal interviews at the home of Mr. Harvey Simms.
