Leather. Zustand: Very Good. First edition. A very scarce quarter calf first edition account of the unusual life of George Vason. A first edition, bound in quarter calf and marbled boards. Wtith marbled endpapers and gilt tooling to spine. Featuring a monochrome frontispiece and an illustrated half title. George Vason is know fo…r his work asa missionary in Tonga. Whilst abroad, Vason was keen to engage with the local culture, and he became the first white man to be made a South Sea Island chief. He eventually returned to Nottingham, becoming the Governor of Nottingham Gaol. Penned by Nottingham local historian James Orange. Bound in quarter calf. Externally, a little worn. Moderate rubbing to extremities. Moderate rubbing to boards. Bookplates to front paste down. Hinges slightly starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, with the odd spot, handling mark, and crease. Ink inscription to front blank. Occasional library stamps to blanks, frontispiece, half title, and the odd page throughout. Moderate marks to text block edges. Very Good. None (illustrator). book.
