Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. Oblong folio measuring between 13.5" x 10". String-tied red leatherette album with gilt decorations. Contains 45 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 2.5" x 4.5" and 5" x 7" with captions. Near fine with some edgewear with near fine photographs. A photo album compiled by the parents of Joan Bayardine O'Keefe-Divyak as a birthday present which she then filled in with captions detailing her life through 1953. It begins with her birth place a house in Plymouth, Idaho where she was born on July 10, 1918. Then moved to Boise soon after and photographs show a young Joan and her sister Marie playing around their family home. The family moved to the Pacific Northwest and Joan and her siblings are seen in Oregon and Seattle in the early 1920s. Many of the photos are captioned with Joan's observations and feeling towards the photographs, "we were happy with a 10 cent hat!" and "I was so proud of that coat" are two such examples. She is photographs playing the violin, with her siblings and relatives, and at a campsite in Washington state. Joan is seen maturing into a young woman and by 1936 she is pictured with friends after she turned 18. Other photos from this time show her posed around her house with captions that read, "this is my first permanent," "my first party dress," and "my first formal. "One photo from 1938 is captioned "drill team rainbow girls" and shows her in her uniform. Another photo shows her lifting her skirt captioned "showing off the fatted calf." A later portrait of a sullen looking Joan reads "dreaming dreams of love." The album ends with group photos of Joan and her family outside what appears to be a church. A modest but sweet collection of photographs following a young woman's life through the 1920s and 30s.
