(illustrator). First Edition, First Printing. Octavo, 221p, [3]. Gray boards, gray cloth spine. Stated "first edition," with a full number line. A fine copy, appears unread. In the publisher's fine dust jacket, $14.95 on the front flap. Includes a laid-in letter from David Halberstam, hoping to assuage DiMaggio's concerns that a book by Halberstam would overshadow his autobiography, later titled "The DiMaggio Albums." From the "Joe DiMaggio Collection," sold by Hunt Auctions Inc., Lot 599, November 24, 2002. Includes letter of provenance from the DiMaggio family. Joe DiMaggio (1914-1999) was a three-time MVP, nine-time World Series champion, and 13-time All-Star whose 56-game hitting streak in 1941 remains one of the most iconic records in American sports. Signed.

An interesting letter, casting light on the workings of Victorian literary criticism. See his entry in the Oxford DNB. The subject of the letter, 'Friendship's Offering', was one of the four great nineteenth-century London 'gift books', appearing between the 1820s and the 1840s, for some of the period at least under the editorship of Thomas K. Hervey. 1p, 4to. In good condition, lightly aged, with thin neat strip of windowpane mount adhering to edges. Folded four times for postage. Thirteen lines of text. Signed 'W. Jerdan', with recipient ('Dear Sir') not named. Begins 'Dear Sir / Accept my thanks for the Friendships Offering which shall receive immediate attention. My packets are regularly sent from the Literary Gazette Office twice every day (the forenoon & evening) so that I am sure of their being speedily delivered: yet I rather think I did not get the India proofs you mention last week. If I have them now, they must be with the gentleman who writes most of the Criticisms on the Fine Arts for me.' He ends by confirming that a review has been printed of 'Mr Kennedy's Volume of genuine poetry', but that 'the presence of more temporary matter led to its being delayed', and that the notice will be inserted on the following Saturday.

Signed Letter and Photograph. Framed letter and photograph, maroon matte, black wood frame, full piece measures 20" x 16." Letter from the George Bush Office, signed in black pen by George H.W. Bush, dated February 3, 2011. Photograph of President Bush on his new scooter, with inscription: "To Mike Pfister with best wishes," - with a note added by President Bush "and many thanks, George Bush." A great post-presidential piece, with PSA certificate included. In later life, former President Bush suffered from vascular parkinsonism, a form of Parkinson's disease. He experienced increasing weakness in his legs after hip replacement surgery in 2007, eventually requiring the full-time use of a wheelchair or scooter by 2011. The full letter reads: "Dear Mike, Here is a photo showing one happy old guy on one great looking scooter. I love my scooters, and I can't thank you and Doug and Mark enough for your kindness and generosity. At age 86, almost 87, thoughtful gestures like this mean more to me than ever. With gratitude and warm regards, George Bush.". Signed.
