Hardcover. Zustand: Very Good. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Poor. 1st Edition. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket, signed by the author on the front end page. DJ's front flap is detached but present, which is the reason for the poor condition grade. Jacket also shows chipping and tears along the edges. Maroon cloth boards underneath are clean with only issue being some fading/rubbing along the edges. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. No hinge issues, no bookplates, no library markings, nothing torn or loose. The book itself would grade higher but page 90/91 is quite darkened on the majority of the pages. This was presumably caused by something like a newspaper clipping being placed in here which reacted with the book paper. The remaining pages are clean. Signed by Author(s).

Through extensive examination of disparate materials held in archives and temples across South Asia, Douglas Ober explores Buddhist religious dynamics through the course of expanding colonial empires, intra-Asian connectivity, and the intellectual pursuits of nineteenth and twentieth century Indian thinkers. Dust on the Throne recovers the integral role of lesser-known anti-caste activists and Buddhist monastics in the making of modern global Buddhism.
