Julius Kambarage Nyerere (1922-1999) was a Tanzanian politician, anti-colonial activist, and political theorist. He governed Tanganyika as prime minister from 1961 to 1962 and then as president from 1962 to 1964, after which he led its successor state, Tanzania, as president from 1964 to 1985. This book is the third collection of his speeches and writings, and covers the period January 1968 to January 1973. It is a representative sample of Tanzania's and her leader's views on such subjects as socialism, economic policy, human equality, African unity and liberation, and international relations. The book is bound in the original dark green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine. The case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping and some wear to the cloth at the spine ends. There is a split of about 3/8" in the cloth on the bottom of the front spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and the corners and bottom of the spine are worn with small pieces missing. Up to about 1/4" is missing from the top of the spine and there is a tear of about 2" on the top rear spine corner that then extends into the back of the wrapper to about 3". The tear has noticeable surrounding creasing and has been repaired on the reverse with tape. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover.
