Taxonomic index. VIII. Plate. From the Preface: The present volume deals with marine bivalves of Indian seas. About 71 families (of the total 110 families globally) comprising 260 genera (of the total 975 genera as per Vaught, 1989) and more than 760 species are reported. It is however, not possible to provide data on all the species as collections are not available for many and some are mentioned only in literature and not accessible for cross verification. An attempt has been made in this volume to present data on all the 71 families and 260 genera and a total of 532 species. The number of genera may be more when we take into account the new classification and the WORLD REGISTER OF MARINE SPECIES.
