First edition of this commemorative publication produced 18 years after the company's founding, advertising "progress" in trade and railway construction. Investors are urged to apply to the company's offices in Leadenhall Street for land and concessions. The photographs are predominantly the work of two of the company's officers, Dr G. N. Johnstone and A. J. West. They include "The first train in North Borneo, 3rd February, 1898" (the train was named "Progress"), "Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee, June 22nd, 1897", "The Sultan of Sulu and Suite", "Chinese mummers", and portrait photographs of prominent British officials. Landscape quarto. With 2 colour maps, half-tone illustrations throughout. Original red bead-grain cloth, front cover lettered in gilt with gilt coat of arms of British North Borneo Company.
