Zustand: VERY GOOD. First US edition. A novel by this Edwardian writer who was both prolific (with 60 novels plus short stories to his credit) and popular at his time. A 1902 review commented that "There is no pleasanter writer than Mr. W. E. Norris, and it is perhaps from this very excess of pleasantness that we lose some consciousness of his excellent art, his clever method, and his smoothness of writing. He is an author who has invariably an interesting story to relate, which he does in a pleasantly cynical manner. . his work is essentially gentlemanly." (Torquay Times) Appleton's Town and Country Series # 190. Top edge gilt, 350 pp. Very good overall in three quarter burgundy leather over red marbled boards (some rubbing to spine and corners).
