Baker in November 1933 Noel Jaquin (1894-1974) was a highly influential British palmistry expert, psychologist, and author. He is widely regarded as a pioneer in chirology (the study of hands) for his efforts to move palmistry away from fortune-telling and establish it as a legitimate, scientific and psychological rationale. His seminal book, The Hand of Man, was published by Faber & Faber in 1933. Subtitled "A practical treatise of the science of hand reading, dealing in detail with its psychological, sexual, superstitious and medical aspects," it remains a landmark text in the evolution of modern hand analysis. The folder is signed on the front cover by Noel Jaquin, Miss Baker has supplied a picture of her hand, and Noel Jaquin has type written a ten page report of his reading on the handprint. Bound in a folder measuring 10.5 inches tall, some corner creasing wear else in good condition. This is an exceptionally rare and remarkable collector's item that captures a pivotal moment in the history of modern hand analysis. Because Noel Jaquin was highly focused on transitioning palmistry into a clinical, psychological practice, items documenting his actual diagnostic consultations are incredibly scarce. Bound in its original grey card folder titled "Private and Confidential" with typed reference numbers (Ref No. 28/1133 B). The reading is dated November 1933, which is the exact month and year The Hand of Man was published by Faber & Faber. The small promotional slip tipped onto the front cover is a publisher's prospectus or advertisement label used to drum up interest for the book's release. This means Miss Baker was getting a reading from Jaquin at the absolute peak of his early career publicity. Noel Jaquin was instrumental in moving hand reading away from fatalistic fortune-telling and into a respected diagnostic science linked to psychology and dermatoglyphics. While first-edition copies of his books appear on the market, original, signed personal consultation files and case studies of this depth are virtually non-existent outside of institutional archives.
