No Jacket. hardback, dated 1682 but this the reprint of 1790 with the illustrations in reverse direction, 12 mo, nineteenth century calf gilt, rebacked with twentieth century calf, raised bands to the spine, gilt on burgundy label, compartments with repeat gilt design, dated 1682 to the foot. All edges, gilt. Gilt rubbed to the left of the upper board, water stain to the right of the lower. Occasional faint water staining to the age-toned paper, but generally very good. Rare first edition of Nobbes' authoritative work on the history and methods of trolling. First issue with the engraved hook on page 37 pointing to the right and two woodcut illustrations in the text. Small octavo, bound in three quarters morocco over marbled boards, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, raised bands, marbled endpapers. Lord Spencer's copy with his ownership inscription on the verso of the front free endpaper, "From Lord Spencer's Library 18/". From the library of renowned angling collectorÂAlfred Denison with his gilt leather bookplate to the verso of the front panel.
