Red black-lettered cloth covers, black cloth spine, covers clean but outward bowing and corner rubbing, unlettered spine has thin splits along much of joints, wraparound protective acetate sleeve as acquired. paginated to p.64 + approx same unpaginated with 8 pp. adverts to end, the majority of the work is taken up with full page architectural drawings, plans and photo-plates, many un-numbered, but l18 full page photos before end advert (i.e. 36 pp.); internally very good being clean and unmarked, slight open creasing to upper outer corners throughout is only flaw. In three Sections: Cottages for Rural and Urban Workers; A Colony of Houses for Munition Workers (at Well Hall, London for Woolwich Arsenal Workers); An Urban Housing Scheme (on Kennington Estate of the Duchy of Cornwall, by architects Prof. S.D. Adshead and S.C.Ramsey). The first section has details of numerous projects across the country (though not I think in Scotland) with architects credited, including two by Clough Williams-Ellis. Although no author given one subsection of Section I is credited to W.J. Swain and the final Section, which has a separate t.p., has a brief introductory opening text by Patrick Abercrombie. Frustratingly I have been unable to find any dates on internal evidence (all plans etc. seem to be undated). The final Section mentions that some preliminary work began in 1915. However the whole tone is early 1920s and seems to be pitched to reflect the post-war concern with 'Homes for Heroes'. Apparently very rare, not on major web-sites at time of listing and not in COPAC.22 cm x 30.5 cm.…

Wraps. Zustand: Good. no date, perhaps circa 1981. Wraps. 12 ½ by 8 ¾ inches. 20 pp. Black and white illustrations and clip art throughout. A zine style work written with a strong feminist perspective. No authors are given, but most of the zine consists of an interview/conversation between two people musing on rock music, including the punk and new wave genres, reflecting on the politics of music and the influence of musicians. The last several pages of the zine contain comic style clip art and captions on the subject of women being oppressed in society through subtle means, including sexism inherent in culture, the workplace, etc. One comic seemingly predicts the concept of mansplaining with captions reading " 'Do I oppress you,' 'you oppress me intelectually [sic]' 'is that because I'm a man' 'it's still more accepted that men know about things.it does take courage for a woman to express opinions about a lot of things.'" Printed at the Women in Print collective. GOOD condition. Moderate uneven toning, minor soiling and some staining to the covers. Moderate wrinkling and creasing. (Mark Jay Collection).…

Docketed on reverse of second leaf: 'May 1835 | £75. 7. 5. | Richardson a/c for Sir James Harington decd | paid | paid additional balance - £1. 16 -'. The ninth baronet died in 1835, the tenth baronet assuming the title at the age of fourteen. The present document was evidently produced to clear the old account. It contains numerous items, dated between 10 January 1834 and 8 December 1835. The first item on the list is 'The Baboo 2 Vols post 8vo 1/2 russ', and while books do feature, the larger part of the items relate to financial transactions - mainly carriage and shipping charges, including some for other individuals including the Duke of Northampton ('Insurance & policy on 3 Parcels'), the Duke of Buccleugh ('Insurance & policy on 2 Parcels') and 'Roxburgh Castle' ('Insurance & policy on 1 Parcel', as well as 'Insurance & policy on 1 Parcel p Mary Somerville', and a similar amount for 'Ab Robinson'. The list has been divided into named sections, presumably by Harington, including: 'Asia', 'Orwell', 'M. A. Webb', 'Cordelia', 'Fatima', 'London', Hindostan', 'True Briton'. The list ends (8 December 1835) with 'To Cash paid Mr Williams, Hatter, 1 Hat supplied July 15/1835 p account', £1 16s 0d; followed by credit to the account, on 10 October 1835, 'By Cash of - Balfour Esq', £75 7s 5d; and on 8 December 1835, '[By] overcharge on 2 Hats supplied by W Williams, Bond St | Received Decr. 23 1835 of the Executor of the late Sir J Harington the sum of One pound Sixteen Shillings being the balance of the account | p Jno Richardson | J Webb'. BBTI only has Richardson listed for the year 1846, describing his additional business as 'Financial services (stockbroker)' and 'East India agent'.…

29pp., small 4to. Stitched into card covers. Internally in fair condition, in aged and worn covers repaired along the spine with brown tape. There are eleven hand-coloured engravings: one on the cover, a frontispiece, two vignettes (at the beginning and end of the poem) and seven full-page illustrations in the body of the poem (six of them with blank reverses). The cover illustration, frontispiece, and all but two of the full-page engravings are attributed to Chandler and Duran. The hand-coloured engraving on the front cover is of a cat pouncing on a rabbit in foliage, while other rabbits scatter, together with the publisher's details and the title 'The Delectable Historie of the Cat and the Rabbits'. (This illustration also features, without the lettering included within it, on p.21 of the poem.) The back cover carries an advertisement for Cottrell's business. The pagination includes the covers, and on the reverse of the front cover, paginated as p.2, is an attractive full-page frontispiece engraving of the cat in question. The poem begins on p.3, under the drophead title: 'Ye Delectable Historie of | YE CAT AND YE RABBITS.' It is in 52 four-line stanzas, numbered in Roman numerals, and begins: 'Once on a time, by the side of a wood, | Dwelt a populous burrow of Rabbits, | Happy, contented, moral and good, - | A people of excellent habits.' The poem ends with the rabbit, having eaten a number of rabbits, being shot with an arrow by a shepherd: 'Then sighing, repenting, and breathing his last, | He uttered the moral which follows: | "A rogue is a fool, and soon is caught fast | In the trap he has set for his fellows."' Excessively scarce: the only two copies on OCLC WorldCat at Dartmouth Library and Brown University, and no copies on COPAC.…

Ashby was prevented from casting a vote in an Aylesbury election by White, a constable who claimed Ashby was not an established resident of that town. The case was decided in Parliament in Ashby's favor and it established the following rule: the actions of one party may not hinder the rights of another.
