Engström is the shooting-star of swedish photography! Hardcover with dustjacket. 242 x 305 mm (9.75 x 12.25 inch). 216 pages. 127 color and duotone plates. Ed…ited by JH Engström and Greger Ulf Nilson. Condition: Dustjacket on the backside with slightest trace of use; no defects. Otherwise new, mint, unread. Overall excellent, like new condition! Haunts can be seen as part two of a trilogy which began with Trying to Dance, JH Engström's artist's book project which was short-listed for the 2005 Deutshe Börse Photography Prize. At the back of Trying to Dance JH Engström wrote "I'm always looking for presence. Whenever I try, my doubts get unmasked." These doubts and questions are prelevant in Haunts, but in this volume Engström focuses more on public spaces and life in the streets. At the center of JH Engström's pictures is a strong feeling of being in an endless present tense. The confrontation between "now" and the photographer's memories is inevitable. And he doesn't try to separate emotions from objectivity. His images embody their questions. Condition: Coth inside and outside brilliant, clean, new , mint condition. Outside rear dustjacket with minimalst trace of use. Great copy, signed by the artist! Supermarkets, parties, small town streets, amusement parks, gas stations, TV-shows, landscapes, food. During that time Tunbjörk was working on his series Landet utom sig / Country Beside Itself, but these images were not used in that series because they didn`t fit, they were too ugly, too beautiful or too silly. Together they show a darker and more hysteric view of modern western society and Sweden during the economic recession of the early nineties." I try not to take pictures as I see them, but as I feel them. I`m interested in imperfection." Since the 1960s Anders Petersen has been documenting life beyond the margins of polite society, a world including prostitutes, transvestites, alcoholics, night-time lovers and adult conflict. Petersen photographs his subjects with a candid somewhat detached eye, and is able to disclose unpleasant realities such as drug abuse with a sense of bewilderment and currency. City Diary is an ambitious series of books ahowing Petersen`s ongoing photographic engagement with life in the shadows in cities including Stockholm, Tokyo and St Petersburg. The first three volumes of City Diary appear here together; the others will follow as and when they are ready - just as life unfolds around Petersen on his travels." (from the publisher) Born in Stockholm in 1944, Anders Petersen in one of the most important European photographers working today. Throughout his career Petersen has consistently challenged photographic conventions, beginning with his photographs of late-night rugulars in Hamburg bar in the 1960s, which subsequently became the seminal book Café Lehmitz.
