Por el camino, las contribuciones al estudio del barroco y el neobarroco han alcanzado un estatuto de disciplina en el ámbito de la estética y la teoría crítica. Así pues, el propósito de este volumen es ofrecer un cuadro general, desde múltiples perspectivas pero bajo un prisma filosófico común, de este momento fundamental en la constitución del ser moderno, y en todas sus aristas: desde Hobbes a Suarez, pasando por Pascal, Gracián o Spinoza, de la estética a la teoría política. Pero pensar el barroco es inevitablemente repensarlo, y su crítica implica siempre una reflexión acerca de las herramientas que ésta utiliza.
