He is associated with portrait engraving in the circle of Anthony van Dyck and contributed to reproductive printmaking after Flemish masters. Richard Gaywood (c. 16191668), to whom the plate was formerly attributed, was an English engraver known for his detailed etchings after Continental artists.Biography artist: Sir Anthony van Dyck (15991641) was a Flemish Baroque painter and print designer celebrated for his elegant portraiture. His Iconographie series of etched and engraved portraits became one of the defining portrait publications of the 17th century and strongly influenced European print culture.
