A very attractive example of Sassoon's famous fictional account of his life before, during and after the First World War, with seven full-page illustrations (with tissue guards) and chapter-heading vignettes throughout by William Nicholson. Signed on the limitation page by Sassoon and Nicholson and numbered 152 out of only 300 copies issued.

Mild darkening to boards, with a trace of wear at edges and corners; internally fresh and clean - a pleasing, Very Good or better copy. One sport for every month of the year, in Nicholson's signature style, with text by Rudyard Kipling. In addition to this regular issue, there were "a few copies" issued with hand-colored plates, signed by the authors. This an attractive copy, clean and sound, better than usually seen.
