hardcover. Zustand: Good. Clipped: poor. Fifth Edition. 253 p., clean and unmarked within; no marking on end pages but paper is not as fine and it is age-toned; wonderful photo portraits of each author, though there is some foxing in borders; binding firm; unfaded dark blue boards with still clear gilt lettering has light bumping of corners and slight rrubbing at crown and foot of spine, and along lower edge of rear panel--but in general has been well protected by a clipped d.j. that has suffered chipping along edges with open and closed tears, smudging, and in general great indignity. Fine stories with fascinating commentary by unjustly neglected authors.…

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Origins of Religious Art and Iconography in Preclassic Mesoamerica, edited by H. B. Nicholson and published in 1976 by the UCLA Latin American Center in association with the Ethnic Arts Council of Los Angeles. A respected scholarly work examining early Mesoamerican religious imagery, symbolism, and cultural development through multiple academic contributors. This copy carries strong Nathaniel Tarn provenance with his ex libris bookplate. Tarn, born Edward Michael Mendelson, was a poet, translator and anthropologist, and student of Claude Levi Strauss; his library is widely regarded for its depth in anthropology and cultural studies. This example also contains very light pencil marginalia attributable to Tarn, adding a subtle but meaningful layer of association. Condition is excellent. Clean, tight, and well preserved with sharp pages and minimal handling wear. Original wraps present. Includes laid in ephemera, including a museum pamphlet and printed article, which enhance research and collector appeal.
