Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. Scientific Essay from the year 2005 in the subject Psychology - Developmental Psychology, grade: 1,0, University of Kassel, language: English, abstract: Erik H. Erikson (1902 - 1994) is without a doubt one of the most outstanding psychoanalysts of the last century. The native Dane and later US-American further developed the psychosocial aspects and the developmental phases of adulthood in Sigmund Freud's stage theory. It is Erikson's basic assumption that in the course of a lifetime, the human being goes through eight developmental phases, which are laid out in an internal development plan. On each level, it is required to solve the relevant crisis, embodied by the integration of opposite poles presenting the development tasks, the successful handling of which is in turn of importance for the following phases. The term crisis does not have a negative connotation for Erikson, but rather is seen as a state, which through constructive resolution leads to further development, which is being integrated and internalized into the own self-image. Each (component) comes to its ascendance, meets its crisis, and finds its lasting solution (.) toward the end of the stages mentioned. All of them exist in the beginning in some form. Hence, the human development is a process alternating between levels, crises, and the new balance in order to reach increasingly mature stages. In detail, Erikson studied the possibilities of an individual's advancement and the affective powers that allow it to act. This becomes particularly obvious in the eight psychosocial phases, which now should be the focus of this paper. This demonstrates that Erikson did see development as above all: a lifelong process. Harris, Greg (illustrator).…

Paperback. Zustand: Good. "A large, lavishly inventive novel . . . an American descendant of The Arabian Nights . . . erudite and artful entertainment."--The New York Times Book Review   At a Manhattan planetarium in 1965, ten-year-old Enzo is whisked away from his young adoptive aunt, Mala. His abductor turns out to be a blood relative: his great-uncle Junius Samax, a wealthy former gambler who lives in a converted Las Vegas hotel surrounded by a priceless art collection and a host of fascinating, idiosyncratic guests. In Samax's magical world, Enzo receives a unique education and pieces together the mystery of his mother's life and the complicated history of his adoption. Back in New York, Mala only knows that Enzo has disappeared. After a yearlong search proves fruitless, she enlists in the Navy Nursing Corps and on a hospital ship off Vietnam falls in love with a wounded B-52 navigator, who disappears on his next mission. Devastated again, Mala embarks on a restless, adventurous journey around the world, hoping to overcome the losses that have transformed her life.   Fusing imagination, scholarship, and suspense with remarkable narrative skill, Nicholas Christopher builds a story of tremendous scope, an epic tale of love and destiny, as he traces the intricate latticework of Mala's and Enzo's lives. Each remains separate from each other but tied in ways they cannot imagine--until the final miraculous chapter of this extraordinary novel.   "A writer of remarkable gifts."--The Washington Post Book World   "This labyrinthine novel . . . is animated by an encompassing lust for beauty."--The New Yorker   "[Nicholas] Christopher is North America's García Márquez; Borges with emotional weight. . . . This is one of those rare books that, by connecting the stars, catches you in its web."--The Globe and Mail Includes an excerpt of Nicholas Christopher's Tiger Rag. …

Hardback. Zustand: Good. A major poet of his generation. Mr. Christopher's poetry is not merely extraordinarily good, but seems to me altogether in a class by itself. -- Anthony Hecht Since his poetry began appearing in the New Yorker when he was in his early twenties, Nicholas Christopher has been praised as one of America's most important poets. Crossing the Equator combines Christopher's best work from the past three decades with a section of new poems. The transformative voice of Crossing the Equatordisplays Christopher's dazzling power and luminosity. Praise for CROSING THE EQUATOROne of our most inventive writers To read [Christopher s] richly honed and sensuous work, which has so much tensile strength, is to visit other worlds and then return to our own, disturbed by time, but also refreshed and reawakened. --Edward Hirsch, The Washington Post Book World [A] dreamlike and highly visual collection, where punctuation is often scarce and the plausible . . . can quickly turn surreal. -- The New Yorker NICHOLAS CHRISTOPHER is the author of seven volumes of poetry, five novels, and a cultural history of film noir.A regular contributor to the New Yorker, Esquire, the Nation, the Paris Review, and other notable magazines, he is aprofessor in the School of the Arts at Columbia University andlives in New York City.…

It's been four years since his last live performance, and his manager is intent on revitalizing his career with a big concert at Carnegie Hall. Hardback. Zustand: Very Good. A richly detailed historical novel from master storyteller Nicholas Christopher that School Library Journal calls A] lush tale of music, magic, and intrigue Nicol Zen is all alone in 1700s Venice, save for his clarinet, which a mysterious magician had enchanted, allowing its first player to perform expertly. Soon Nicol is a famous virtuoso, wealthy beyond his dreams, but he can't stop wondering if he earned the success himself--or what might happen if the spell were removed. And throughout it all, he continues to think about the girl he met in Venice, what she might be doing and if she's safe from harm. With a guest appearance by composer Vivaldi, and brimming with fascinating period details, this is a compelling coming-of-age story full of universal themes and a love story that will conjure memories of Romeo and Juliet, perfect for teens who love stories set in other times, and a magician who dresses all in white and can be in two places at once. . . .
