Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware - 'Writing the One-Act Play' is a comprehensive guide dedicated to the craft of short-form drama. Author Harold Newcomb Hillebrand provides an essential roadmap for aspiring playwrights, focusing specifically on the unique demands and structural constraints of the one-act format. Unlike full-length productions, the one-act play requires a heightened sense of economy, precision, and immediate impact, all of which are explored in detail throughout this work. The text delves into the fundamental elements of dramatic composition, including plot construction, characterization, and the art of writing effective dialogue. Hillebrand offers practical advice on how to develop a compelling central idea and bring it to a satisfying climax within a limited timeframe. By analyzing the technical aspects of the stage, the book serves as both a theoretical study and a practical manual for the theater. 'Writing the One-Act Play' remains a valuable resource for students of literature, creative writing, and dramatic arts, offering timeless insights into the discipline required to master the short play. Whether for the classroom or the amateur stage, this work clarifies the distinction between the short story and the short play, emphasizing the visual and auditory power of live performance. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Paperback. Zustand: Good. A scarce copy of Harold Hillebrand's 'The Child Actors', including a handwritten letter by the author. In a brown paperback with black lettering. No. 1 only. Harold Newcomb Hillebrand was a professor of English literature who became a notable member of the English Department at the University of Illinois from 1914, and became head of the department from 1934 to 1944. His primary research interest was theatre and playwriting, and his study of the celebrated British Shakespearean stage actor Edmund Kean is often considered to be the best biography about the actor. Indeed, the text provided the first scholarly examination of the evidence on Kean's parentage, birth, and upbringing. This text similarly demonstrated Hillebrand's interest in actors of the Shakespearean stage, yet focuses rather on an array of 'Child Actor's rather than one sole figure like Kean. A brown paperback with black lettering. Externally worn to the extremities, including rubbing, tears, splitting and scuffing. Tape to the spine coming away with sections missing. Internally, binding is loose with the text block detached from cover. Pages generally clean and bright with some minor spotting throughout and the occasional handling marks. Some of the corners are folded slightly. Pencil and ink markings to margins. Front endpaper slightly browned with ink inscription. Tipped in letter by author. Good. None (illustrator). book.…
