Hardcover. Zustand: Good. No Jacket. Fifth Printing, November 1947. Clean tight copy. Turquoise boards have gilt design , with bumps at corners and spine. Slight shelf wear. Title page is torn about two inches from bottom. Cover has a nifty gold 7 full on the front made to look like a trail showing a covered wagon. A bit rubbed…toward top. Writer wanted every incident to be absolutely true, so she based the book upon the writings or oral testimony of the several Sager girls who survived the Whitman Massacre. The event was the climax of several years of complex interaction between the Whitmans, who had led the first wagon train along the Oregon Trail, and the local Native Americans. 221 pp. Wilson, Helen Hughes (illustrator).
