The first edition of Miller, a scarce and very charming biography of the French painter, written by Netta Peacock. Part of Methuen's Little Books on Art series, publ…ished in 1905. In quarter vellum, with a frontispiece of Millet and all thirty-four other illustrated plates, including the artist's paintings. Collated complete. Famous for painting rural landscapes and farmers across France, Millet was a pioneer of the Realism art movement and was a founder of the romantically influenced Barbizon school of art. As well as being a distinguished art writer, Peacock was a photographer who frequently mingled with Russian art circles at the turn of the century. In quarter vellum. Externally, smart, with minimal marks to cloth. Minor fading and a couple of minor marks to vellum, and slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. End papers are bright and clean. Previous owner's small bookplate to bottom of front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good. Various (illustrator). book.

Ink stamp from Libava East-Asian Shipping Company to title page and front endpapers. Internally, generally firmly bound. Hinges slightly strained, but firm.
