Three wonderful original watercolour sketchbooks from the 1880s and 1890s, consisting of beautiful and vibrant still life and landscape watercolours from Victorian-era women. Three wonderful late 19th century original watercolour sketchbooks, with a wide variety of illustrations and from a number of amateur artists. Present are: A sketchbook from Grace Edwards of Nell Strange in Shrewsbury, from the 1880s and in a half morocco binding with cloth ties, and with a photograph of Miss Edwards loosely inserted. With fifteen watercolours, including depictions of ships, rural cottages, a still life of a book and mug, and birds and floral arrangements. Another volume from Edwards, with illustrations dated 1898 and 1899. With eighteen watercolours, depicting flowers, rural landscapes, and architecture. A cloth volume, with 'Gertrude Atty 1888' in ink to the front board. This sketchbook seems to have been used by a number of artists, with the names Gertrude Atty, Nelly Stephens, Clara Hill, D. Gatton, D. Hill and others appearing alongside the sketches and watercolours. Feauturing eleven watercolours - of botanicals and landscapes - alongside ten ink and pencil sketches, apparently by a child or young person. These illustrations are dated between 1888 and 1889. One cloth volume, one half morocco volume with cloth covered boards, and one volume with calf backed cloth covered boards. Front board of largest volume detached but present, with rear board tenderly held, and lacking the back strip. Front joint head and tail of half morocco binding starting, but boards firmly held. Rubbing to board perimeters. Internally, generally firmly bound, but with leaves of cloth volume tenderly held.
