Il décrit la ligne qui portera son nom et qui sert de repère pour apprécier le déplacement du grand trochanter dans les traumatismes de la hanche. Auguste Nelaton (1807-1873) devint professeur de clinique chirurgicale. Clinicien remarquable, opérateur brillant et ingénieux, excellent enseignant, il fut le chirurgien le plus renommé du Second Empire. Il devint le médecin de Napoléon III et de la famille impériale. Ambroise Mordret (1782-1857) était médecin militaire et devint médecin au Mans. ; 8. NELATON A. : Recherches sur l'affection tuberculeuse des os (Didot Jeune, 1836, 50 pp., 2 planches). A. Nélaton (1807-1873) devint professeur de clinique chirurgicale. Il fut le chirurgien le plus renommé du Second Empire. Cette thèse très rare sur l'ostéomyélite, notamment tuberculeuse, fut très rmarquée. Nélaton crée le terme ostéomyélite. Il reconnait au mal de Pott une étiologie unique, la tuberculose, et distingue deux formes cliniques, enkystée et infiltrée. Cette thèse comporte deux belles planches lithographiées, imprimées en blanc sur fond noir. Une édition commerciale, moins rare, a paru l'année suivante chez Germer Baillière.
