This is a 1937 Parker Map Company city map or plan of Wellesley and Needham, Massachusetts. The map depicts the region from the boundary between Natick and Wellesley to the Charles River and from boundary between Weston and Wellesley and the Charles River to Dover and the Charles River. Highly detailed, myriad streets throughout the two towns are illustrated and labeled. No residences are labeled, but every fire alarm box in both Wellesley and Needham are noted, and the exact location of each box is listed in two separate tables, one in the lower left corner and one in the upper right. An inset map of the Wellesley College campus and the village square is included in the upper left corner of the map. Located on the shores of Lake Waban, all the residence halls are illustrated and labeled, as are the academic buildings, the library, and the outdoor theater. A proposed recreation building is ghosted in along Central Street, illustrating the college's desire to expand. A vignette of the clock tower in Wellesley Hills adorns the bottom left corner, while a view of the public library in Needham is included on the upper right. Alphabetical street indexes for both Wellesley and Needham are situated above the map and provide the grid location for each street. The whole is framed by advertisements for local businesses, including realtors, banks, car dealerships, a travel agent, a shop specializing in china and glass, and the local funeral chapel. This map was created and published by the Parker Map Company in 1937.
