From the estate of Kurt Scheel, German publicist. - Rubbed jacket, overall good and clean. - Back in the days when films were called movies and actors were called stars and studio chiefs ruled absolutely over their glittering kingdoms, Nat Dallinger and his camera were capturing some of Hollywood's most glamorous residents in their most informal settingsin their homes, with their children and their pets, at their lavish parties. One of Movieland's "old-timers," Nat Dallinger spent forty exciting years snapping photos of stars in their favorite haunts. And while almost all his shots were candid, none is ordinary. In fact, his photographs were so admired by the studios and the stars and so adored by the fans that he was granted carte-blanche cooperation from every studio as well as from many of the stars themselves. Unforgettable Hollywood represents the best of those forty years' worth of pictures. Here are Gable, Garland, Garfield, Barrymore, Bergman, and many moreall captured at the peaks of their careers. Here, too, are the photos that helped launch such new stars as Shirley Temple, Robert Taylor, and Betty Grable. From Garbo to Brando, Unforgettable Hollywood charms the reader with looks at the real-life scenes of these residents of a fantasyland. These are perhaps the most revealing, delightful, and loving photographs ever to come out of Hollywood from the camera of a single photographer. - Nat Dallinger was born in Baltimore in 1911. He began taking pictures in 1932 and soon was selling them to the leading news-picture syndicates. He became a staff photographer with the New librk Times photo syndicate, Wide World Photos, and then headed its Hollywood bureau. After working for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and as a freelancer, in 1941 he created the first by-line photo feature service from Hollywood. Finally, two years later, Nat Dallinger joined King Features Syndicate, which allowed worldwide distribution of his photographs. An MGM interoffice memo dated April 18, 1949, stated: "The most important single outlet for pictorial material in Hollywood is Nat Dallinger. Want to give him every possible service even to the sacrifice of other things." Mr. Dallinger, who is married and has two children, has been retired for several years. Unforgettable Hollywood, his first book, has been arranged and captioned by himself. ISBN 9780517618127 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 968 Original cloth with dust jacket.
