In den Warenkorb442/500 COPIES (from an overall edition of 550 copies), 27 full-page wood engravings from 18 artists, with 6-page introduction from Dodgson, Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum, endpapers with faint spotting, pp. [70], large 4to, publisher's cream buckram-backed paper-covered boards, cover with title lettered in black and vignette by Vivien Gribble, backstrip lettered in black, faint mark at lower edge of cover buckram and backstrip, dustjacket, repeating cover design, with printed text description and list of artists, toned, with a few nicks and slight loss at corners, and head & foot of backstrip, very good. Dodgson's selection, with the scarce dustjacket, is particularly notable for its striking variety of styles: from Raverat's brooding 'The Bolshevists', Rooke's sparingly modern 'Gates of Upper Dauphiné', Hagreen's fairy-tale 'The Tower', John Nash's naturalistic 'The Black Cat' and Greenwood's Palmeresque 'The Dale Road' to McKnight Kauffer's playfully abstract 'Flight', Wadsworth's geometric 'Yorkshire' and Gibbings' most famous 'vanishing line' works - 'Hamrun' and 'Clear Waters'.
